Held on September 6, 2020, the session—titled “The Power of Proceduralism”was broadcast via CineHello Network, one of China’s largest digital platforms with over 2 million users, dedicated to supporting the growth and innovation of the country’s creative industry.

Douglas shared insights into how procedural workflows are transforming digital content creation, offering scalable, flexible, and efficient solutions for studios navigating the challenges of modern production. Speaking to an audience of filmmakers, VFX artists, and creative technologists, he emphasized the relevance of proceduralism—especially during times of disruption, such as the global pandemic.

“It was an honor to connect with the Chinese creative community during such a critical moment in time,” said Douglas. “I’m grateful for the opportunity to contribute and exchange ideas on how technology can empower resilience and creativity.”

The session underscored Radiance60’s commitment to cross-border collaboration and education, particularly in empowering Asia’s creative industries through real-time tools, automation, and procedural design.

A Story of Innovation Over Limitation

In his session, Douglas shared how a small studio harnessed the power of procedural workflows—particularly using SideFX Houdini—to deliver high-end CG and VFX shots typically associated with much larger studios and budgets.

From building entire digital worlds to simulating large-scale destruction and breathing life into complex digital creatures, proceduralism enabled his team to achieve remarkable results with lean resources and agile pipelines.

“This is a story of innovation over limitation,” Douglas said. “Proceduralism empowered us to scale our capabilities and punch well above our weight — and I’m excited to keep sharing this story across Asia to inspire more studios and artists to embrace this approach.”
