Speaking at LEVEL UP KL 2025: Advancing Procedural Worldbuilding in Real Time

At LEVEL UP KL 2025, Douglas Leong shared how Houdini and Unreal Engine–driven procedural workflows are enabling scalable, culturally grounded real‑time worldbuilding, illustrated through heritage, education, and AAA‑style production case studies from across Asia.

I had the opportunity to present at LEVEL UP KL 2025, Southeast Asia’s premier games industry conference, where I shared insights on how procedural technologies are shaping the future of real‑time content creation. My session, “Harnessing Procedural Power: Houdini + Unreal Engine for Real‑Time Creation,” explored how procedural workflows are transforming worldbuilding across Asia—from cultural heritage preservation to scalable pipelines for education and production.

The talk highlighted practical examples of how Houdini and Unreal Engine work together to enable efficient, flexible, and high‑quality real‑time creation. Case studies included the Manila Central Post Office recreation, a fantasy world developed for South Korea’s 100X Conference, the neon‑lit Hong Kong street project, and the “Old Shanghai Street” environment built using PCG grammar. Together, these projects demonstrated how procedural thinking empowers creators to build complex, culturally grounded worlds that scale across industries and platforms.
